Card types explained

2 min read Source: CR §2.2, Play Guide Updated 1 August 2026

There are five card types. Four of them live in your main deck; the fifth has its own pile.

Pal#

Your creatures, and the core of any deck. Pals are deployed to your base, they attack, and they are what your opponent has to get through. A Pal has a power value (how hard it hits other Pals and structures, and how much damage it can absorb before it dies) and usually a strike value (how much damage it does to a player).

Pals come in two subtypes: normal Pal and lucky Pal. A lucky Pal counts as both "Pal" and "Lucky Pal" for any card that cares, and it is the subtype constrained by the 8-card deck limit.

Structure#

Buildings you deploy to your base. Structures do not attack and, unlike Pals, they deal no damage back when something hits them. Their equivalent of power is durability — the same number in the same printed slot, renamed because it measures how long the building stands up rather than how hard it swings.

Structures are where work suitability pays off: many of them let you rest a Pal to put it to work and get something in return.

Gear#

Equipment played into your base to support your Pals — weapons, tools, armour. Gear is how a small Pal ends up doing something out of proportion to its cost, and some gear simply points at an enemy Pal and deals damage.

Event#

Single-use cards. You pay the cost, the effect happens, the card goes to the graveyard. Events with the Quick icon are the ones you can fire on your opponent's turn, which is what makes an attack into an open board risky.

Soul#

Your resource cards, kept in the soul deck rather than the main deck. Souls do not do anything by themselves — they are moved into the soul area during your turn, and tilted sideways to pay costs. A soul card prints the reminder that during your main phase, once per turn, you may rest three of them to draw a card.

There is no limit on structures or gear in your base. There is a limit on Pals: five.
